What it is
We numb the tooth, remove the decay, and rebuild the missing part in composite, a tooth-coloured material that is set hard with a blue light. It is shaped to your bite and polished. We do not place mercury (amalgam) fillings, and we only replace old ones when they are actually failing.
Who it is for
Anyone with a cavity, a chipped back tooth or an old filling that has cracked or leaks.
Does it hurt? Honestly
The anaesthetic feels like a pinch for a few seconds; we use a numbing gel first and go slowly. After that you feel pressure and vibration, not pain. Raise your hand and we stop.
Whatever we are doing, raise your left hand and we stop. How we work with nervous patients
Afterwards
- Wait until the numbness wears off, about two hours, before eating, so you do not bite your cheek.
- The tooth may be sensitive to cold for a week or two.
- If the bite feels high after a day, call us; it takes two minutes to adjust.
