In pain right now?
We keep three slots every morning, Monday to Saturday, for anyone in pain, whether you are our patient or not. Call from 07:30 and we will find you one, or tell you honestly if it can wait.
Swelling that affects breathing or swallowing? Do not wait for us. Call 166 or go to a hospital emergency department.

Is it an emergency?
A rough guide, not a diagnosis. If you are not sure, call: telling you something can wait is part of the job.
Call 166 now
- Swelling of the face or neck that makes it hard to breathe, swallow or open your eyes
- Bleeding that does not stop after 20 minutes of firm pressure
- A blow to the face with a head injury, confusion or a broken jaw
For these, go to a hospital emergency department or call 166. Then call us when you can.
Call us this morning
- Toothache that kept you awake or needs painkillers to bear
- A swelling in the gum or face, without trouble breathing
- An adult tooth knocked out or pushed out of place
- A broken tooth with sharp pain or a bleeding centre
We keep three emergency slots every morning, Monday to Saturday. Call from 07:30.
Can wait a few days
- A lost filling or crown without pain
- A small chip that feels sharp on the tongue
- A loose bracket or wire on braces
- Mild sensitivity to cold
Book a normal appointment. Keep a lost crown safe and bring it with you.
Tonight, until we open
- Take the painkiller you would normally take for a headache, as the packet says. Do not put aspirin on the gum; it burns.
- A cold pack on the cheek, wrapped in a cloth, twenty minutes on and twenty off.
- Sleep with your head raised on an extra pillow. Pain often feels worse lying flat.
- Rinse gently with warm salt water, a teaspoon in a glass.
- If a tooth is knocked out: hold it by the white part, put it back or keep it in milk, and call us or come in.
- If swelling spreads, or you have a fever, do not wait for the morning: call 166.
The evening line
If you are already our patient and have swelling, bleeding that will not stop, or a knocked-out tooth, call 697 555 0140 until 22:00. One of our dentists answers. For toothache that painkillers control, call the practice in the morning instead: you will be seen sooner, and they will get some sleep.

A knocked-out adult tooth: the first hour matters
- Find the tooth. Hold it by the white top, never the root.
- If it is dirty, rinse it for a few seconds in milk. Not water, not a scrub.
- Push it gently back into place and bite on a clean cloth. If you cannot, keep it in a glass of milk.
- Come to us straight away, or to the nearest dentist that is open.
Baby teeth are not put back. Bring the child in anyway, so we can check the adult tooth underneath.
