Your neck at a desk: less posture, more movement
There is no perfect way to sit. There is a better way to spend the day.

People often arrive at the clinic apologising for their posture. They have been told to sit up straight, pull their shoulders back and tuck their chin in, and they feel guilty that they cannot hold it for eight hours.
Nobody can. The research on posture and neck pain is surprisingly unconvincing. What does seem to matter is staying in any one position for a long time.
What we suggest instead
Change position often: lean back, lean forward, stand up for a phone call. Set the screen so the top of it is roughly at eye level, which saves you tipping your head down all day. Get up every forty-five minutes, even just to fill a glass of water.
And do a few chin nods at the lights on the way home. They are on our home exercises page, with a drawing.
