How a cancelled ferry in Syros became the last hour of every Periplous.
In 2023 the wind closed the port of Syros on the Sunday of the first edition. Nobody could leave, so a fisherman took all sixty of us around the island in two trips. It was cold, it was beautiful, and we have done it in every harbour since.
This year the boat leaves from the Quay at half past four on the second day and goes out along the gulf, past the White Tower and back. It holds everyone, it is included in every ticket, and it is step-free from the pier. Bring a warm layer: the north wind in December has a name here.
