Tickets and money
Can I get a refund?
In full, until thirty days before the first day. After that you can transfer your ticket to someone else for free, right up to the morning of the event.
Can my company pay by invoice?
Yes. Register, choose Company invoice when we write back, and send us the company name, address and VAT number. We invoice from the association in Greece, with Greek VAT at 24 percent included in the price.
Who gets an open seat?
Anyone for whom the price is the reason they would not come. Students, people between jobs, people from places where 290 euros is a month of rent. We do not ask for proof. Applications are read every two weeks by three people.
Is the boat included?
Yes, for every ticket, including open seats. It leaves from the Quay at the end of the second day and is back ninety minutes later. Nobody is obliged to go.
The programme
Will the talks be recorded?
Every talk in the Main hall and the Loft is recorded, captioned and published free within two weeks. Workshops are not recorded, so people can ask the questions they would not ask on camera.
What language are the talks in?
English. Several speakers also take questions in Greek, and the volunteers speak Greek, English, German and Spanish between them.
How are speakers chosen?
Through an open call in the spring, reviewed by six people who see the proposal but not the name. We invite a few speakers directly, never more than a quarter of the programme. Sponsors cannot buy a talk.
Can I switch between tracks?
Yes, any time. The three rooms are on two floors of the same building, less than a minute apart, and every session starts on the quarter hour so you can move between them.
The venue
Is the venue accessible?
Yes. Warehouse 9 is step-free from the promenade, there is a lift to the Loft, accessible toilets on both floors, and an induction loop in the Main hall. Talks in the Main hall and the Loft have live captions. Tell us about anything else you need when you register.
Is there a quiet room?
Yes, on the Loft floor, with soft light, no talking and a door that closes. There is also a parents room with a fridge and a sink next to it.
What will the weather be like?
Mid December in Thessaloniki is usually eight to fourteen degrees and dry, with the occasional north wind that locals call the Vardaris. Bring a warm layer for the boat.
Conduct
Is there a code of conduct?
Yes, and we enforce it. You can report a problem to anyone in a yellow crew shirt, at the conduct desk by the entrance, by phone or by email, anonymously if you prefer. Two named people read every report.
Everything else
Can I volunteer?
Please. Volunteers work one half-day shift and attend the rest for free. We need about thirty. Write to crew@periplous.example with the day you would prefer.
Who runs Periplous?
The Periplous Association, a small non-profit registered in Ermoupoli. It has a board of five, about two hundred members and no employees. Anyone who has attended can join for ten euros a year and vote on where we go next.
