The room’s story
The walnut in the courtyard is older than the house: the builders left it standing and put the house beside it. From this room you are level with its crown. In spring it is a wall of green; in October the leaves go yellow and then, in one windy night, all of them come down.
It is the smallest room, and the one people who come alone ask for. There is a desk under the window, a lamp, and paper in the drawer. Three books have been started at it that we know of.

The plan
Katerina drew every room before the masons started, and redrew it when the walls turned out not to be where the old survey said. This is the room as it stands.

- A writing desk and a reading lamp
- Shower room
