What it is
The back teeth that come through around age 6 and 12 have deep grooves where food and bacteria collect. A sealant is a thin liquid painted into those grooves and set with a light. It takes a few minutes per tooth, and needs no anaesthetic and no drilling. Fluoride varnish is painted on in a minute and tastes of strawberries, mostly.
Who it is for
Children with new adult back teeth, and children who get cavities easily.
Does it hurt? Honestly
No needles and no drilling. The hardest part is keeping the mouth open for a few minutes.
Whatever we are doing, raise your left hand and we stop. How we work with nervous patients
Afterwards
- After fluoride varnish, no brushing until the next morning and soft food for the evening.
- We check the sealants at every check-up and top them up if needed.
