What it is
If an adult tooth is knocked out: find it, hold it by the white top, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it for a few seconds in milk or saliva, not water. Push it gently back into the socket and bite on a clean cloth, or keep it in milk, and come straight here or to the nearest dentist.
We splint the tooth to its neighbours for two weeks and check its nerve over the following months. Baby teeth are not put back, but come in anyway so we can check the adult tooth underneath.
Who it is for
Children and adults after a fall, a bike accident or a football to the face.
Does it hurt? Honestly
We numb the area. The tooth and gum stay sore for a few days, as after any knock.
Whatever we are doing, raise your left hand and we stop. How we work with nervous patients
Afterwards
- Soft food for two weeks while the splint is on.
- Brush gently around it.
- Come to every check; a tooth can react months later and it is easier to treat early.
