What it is
After a scan, Stavros plans the movement of each tooth and shows you the result on screen before you commit. You get a series of clear trays; each one moves the teeth a fraction of a millimetre. You take them out to eat and brush. Small tooth-coloured bumps are bonded on some teeth so the trays can grip.
Aligners only work if you wear them. If you know you will not, braces may suit you better, and Stavros will say so.
Who it is for
Adults and older teenagers with crowding, gaps or teeth that have moved since braces years ago.
Does it hurt? Honestly
Each new tray feels tight for a day or two. That pressure is the teeth moving. It is uncomfortable, not painful.
Whatever we are doing, raise your left hand and we stop. How we work with nervous patients
Afterwards
- Take trays out to eat and drink anything but water.
- Brush before putting them back in.
- Wear a retainer at night afterwards, or the teeth drift back.
