Kanela, who walks the first kilometre
Our dog was found on the Vikos path. She has been showing guests the way ever since.
Kanela was about three months old when Katerina found her, in September 2019, sitting in the middle of the path at the bottom of the Vikos gorge. Nobody claimed her. She rode home in a rucksack and has not left since.
She is a shepherd dog, or mostly, and the colour of cinnamon, which is what her name means. She has one job, which she gave herself: when guests set off on a walk, she goes with them to the edge of the village, about a kilometre, and then sits down, watches them go, and comes home. Nobody taught her this. She does it for every walk, every guest, in every weather.
From October she sleeps in front of the fire in the winter room, unless the guests in the winter room object, which they never have. She does not go upstairs, does not beg at breakfast (much), and would like it known that she is good with children and suspicious of goats.
